What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound predominantly found in the resinous flower of the cannabis plant. Today, the therapeutic properties of CBD are being tested and validated by scientists and doctors around the world. CBD is one of more than a hundred and fifty phytocannabinoids (phyto- means plant-derived), which are mostly unique to cannabis and combine with the plant’s other phytochemicals to provide tremendous benefit in wellness products.
Can CBD get me high?
No, CBD is naturally non-psychoactive. You may, however, feel more relaxed, which some people also associate with being “high.”
What are cannabinoids?
There are over 150 cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant, including CBD, THC, CBG, and CBC. Phytocannabinoids, as well as endocannabinoids (produced by our body), interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) and other receptor pathways to regulate fundamental physiological and cognitive functions. The goal of the ECS is to produce homeostasis, or equilibrium, within the organism
How does CBD work?
CBD influences the ECS and other biochemical receptor systems which serve to regulate the human body. Unlike most cannabinoids, CBD doesn’t directly bind with CB1 and CB2, the primary endocannabinoid receptors. However, it does stimulate the receptors uniquely and moderate how other cannabinoids bind with CB1 and CB2. When stimulated, receptors release chemical signals which cause targeted cellular changes throughout the body.
What is the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD and THC are the two most common cannabinoids in cannabis, though varieties rich in minor cannabinoids are also being bred. CBD may positively impact anxiety as well as pain modulation, provide sleep support, enhance skin health, speed bone growth, and even calm down your pet. Although there is a lot of positive research surrounding the benefits of CBD oil, it can be been overshadowed by the information we hear about THC, another cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. THC has both psychotropic and therapeutic properties and is associated with getting “high”. Therapeutic properties of THC, according to studies reported by the National Cancer Institute, include relief of pain, nausea, anxiety, and appetite loss. THC may also produce feelings of euphoria, anxiety, happiness, relaxation, paranoia and being spaced out.
Can CBD levels be manipulated during growing or processing?
Contrary to some rumors, a plant cannot be made CBD-rich if it lacks the right genetic make-up. The ratio of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids is genetically determined, according to a study by biochemist Etienne de Meijer, Inheritance of the Cannabinoid Phenotype. A grower can, however, influence overall cannabinoid content by manipulating environmental factors—temperature, light, water acidity, and nutrients—that affect plant health. © Project CBD
Ethanol extraction vs CO2 – How are they different?
The greatest distinction between ethanol and CO2 extraction is in the range of phytochemicals pulled from the plant. CO2 efficiently extracts oil soluble components, primarily cannabinoids and terpenes, while largely leaving behind water soluble components like flavonoids and other polyphenols. In contrast, ethanol extracts both water soluble and oil soluble plant constituents. Consequently, hemp oil extracted with ethanol is truly full spectrum, exhibiting the synergy of all available beneficial phytochemicals. The ethanol that Siskiyou Sungrown uses for extraction is strictly USP grade, certified organic cane alcohol.
FECO vs Isolate – How are they different?
FECO is Full Extract Cannabis Oil, originally coined to describe decarboxylated alcohol extractions of hemp and cannabis, like Siskiyou Sungrown produces. CBD isolate is refined pure crystalline CBD. It is useful, but lacks the efficacy of FECO, with it’s full spectrum of beneficial phytochemicals working synergistically.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are the essential oil phytochemicals responsible for a plant’s aroma and flavor. There are over 100 terpenes produced by cannabis, including limonene, myrcene, and linalool. Terpenes engage with receptors throughout the body, including the ECS, generating an array of beneficial pharmacological activity.
What’s the entourage effect?
Around 500 phytochemicals have been identified in the hemp plant. The active compounds work together synergistically to create what scientists refer to as the “entourage” or “ensemble” effect, in which the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Individual cannabinoid products like CBD isolate do not provide the efficacy of products that contain the full spectrum of phytochemicals working synergistically.
What is Whole Plant?
Whole plant products like ours contain the full spectrum of phytochemicals that were originally present in the hemp plant. We formulate all of our products with pure, unrefined, resinous oil from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant.
What is Full Spectrum?
Many cannabis products are marketed as full spectrum, because full spectrum has become a trendy buzzword, and consumers have an idea that full spectrum is a good thing. Most of these claims are misleading, because the products are lacking crucial and beneficial classes of phytochemicals (phyto refers to plant derived). Full spectrum means the product contains the entire spectrum of beneficial phytochemicals originally present in the whole plant. This includes cannabinoids, terpenes, polyphenols, and more. The most common extraction processes used in the hemp industry readily extract oil soluble components like cannabinoids and terpenes. However, beneficial water soluble compounds, like flavonoids and other polyphenols, are neglected. In contrast, Siskiyou Sungrown uses only ethanol, in the form of USP certified organic cane alcohol, as our extraction solvent. Ethanol demonstrates both polar and nonpolar extraction activity, pulling both water soluble and oil soluble constituents from the plant. Consequently, products of ethanol extraction are truly full spectrum, exhibiting the synergy of all available beneficial phytochemicals.
What is the ECS?
The ECS itself is made up of three parts:
- Receptors in the nervous system and around your body that endocannabinoids and cannabinoids bond with
- Enzymes that help break down endocannabinoids and cannabinoids
Not only is the ECS it a natural part of our bodies, scientific research now show’s how crucial it in regulating bodily functions.
What are cannabinoid receptors?
Cannabinoid receptor sites are located throughout the body and are part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory. Cannabinoids bind to these sites in order to promote the proper physiological function of the muscular system, immune system, nervous system and more. When considering the effects of phytocannabinoids like cannabidiol, two primary cannabinoid receptors are of interest: cannabinoid-receptor type 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2).
Can I take CBD products on a plane?
Yes, recent policy change by the TSA allows individuals to transport products containing hemp derived CBD oil. CBD is allowed “as long as it is produced within federal regulations defined by the law” under the 2018 Farm Bill. All Siskiyou Sungrown CBD products are federally legal.
How fast will CBD work?
Each person’s body differs. The consumption method effects the bioavailability and the amount of time it takes for CBD to enter the bloodstream. The effects of vaping are felt the fastest, at approximately 10 minutes after inhalation. Sublingual consumption has and average time of 15 to 25 minutes before the effects are typically felt is usually the next best option. CBD consumed orally has a slow effect time with the effects at approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Topical applications have the slowest effect time taking approximately 25 to 45 minutes.

SSH Oil vs Hemp oil supplements – difference between our oil and hemp seed oil – what is hemp oil?
Hemp oil can refer to either the resinous oil extracted from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant, or to the oil pressed from the seed of the hemp plant. Oil extracted from the flowers and leaves contains cannabinoids (including CBD and THC), terpenes, polyphenols, and many other bioactive phytochemicals. Hemp seed oil is highly nutritious and useful, however it contains no cannabinoids.
Is your hemp CBD the same as medical cannabis CBD?
For Siskiyou Sungrown, the answer is yes. However, most other CBD products currently on the market are made with either CBD isolate (highly refined and completely lacking in synergistic phytochemicals) or inferior extracts of low quality industrial hemp.
