Food
RSO can be used in nearly any food recipe. Fats and proteins can help our bodies digest the RSO more easily and absorb the cannabinoids more efficiently. The only caveat is that high heat breaks down most phytochemicals over time, so cooking at lower temperatures will preserve more of the medicinal goodness. RSO dissolves in warm oil, so one of the easiest ways to add RSO to a recipe is to first infuse it into butter or the vegetable oil of your choice. Simply heat the butter or oil to between 150° and 200°, mix the RSO into it, then use the blend to replace the butter or oil in your recipe. Please remember to measure the RSO you're adding and divide it by the number of servings so that you know how much you’re ingesting. RSO is bitter, so combining it with other strong flavors can help mask the bitterness. For a quick snack on-the-go you can squirt RSO between two apple slices or onto a savory snack or cookie.
Topicals
RSO mixes easily into oils and creams to make medicinal topicals. The simplest homemade recipe is simply warming and blending RSO and coconut oil. This will remain solid below about 76°, and can be rubbed into the skin to target injured areas. Using almond or olive oil rather than coconut oil will produce a blend that remains liquid (except when very cold). Essential oils and/or other herbs can be added for extra potency. To make a salve, add beeswax at a 6:1 ratio of beeswax to carrier oil. Please remember that some essential oils can be intense when applied directly — keep essential oils below 3% of the total recipe volume. Double boilers are perfect for melting the beeswax and mixing the ingredients. Use between 0.5 mL and 1 mL of RSO per ounce of topical.
Tinctures
RSO can be used to make alcohol-based or oil-based tinctures quite easily. For alcohol-based tincture, use ethanol alcohol of at least 150 proof (never use isopropyl or denatured alcohol). Measure carefully so you know the potency, and use 1 mL of RSO per ounce of alcohol. Warm the RSO to around 120°, add it to alcohol at room temperature, and mix thoroughly. For oil-based tincture, we use MCT (fractionated coconut oil) because of the health benefits, but you can use the vegetable oil of your choice. Warm the RSO to around 120°, add it to MCT at room temperature, and mix thoroughly. Once dissolved into a tincture, the RSO can be dosed more precisely and added to beverages. Oil-based tinctures have the additional benefit of rapid sublingual absorption when held in the mouth.
Beverages
RSO will not mix well into liquids unless it is first dissolved into alcohol or oil. To do this, please read about making tinctures above. Once in tincture form, RSO will mix well with any beverage. Many people enjoy a squirt of CBD in their morning coffee or smoothie.

In extreme heat conditions, hemp leaves droop and fold up in a protective measure. If the stress is not mediated, they will yellow and become crisp. Once a plant is matured, there’s not a lot of changes growers can make, warns Cedar Grey, founder of Siskiyou Sungrown, a CBD wellness product brand in Southern Oregon.
