General FAQ
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound predominantly found in the resinous flower of the cannabis plant. Today, the therapeutic properties of CBD are being tested and validated by scientists and doctors around the world. CBD is one of more than a hundred and fifty phytocannabinoids (phyto- means plant-derived), which are mostly unique to cannabis and combine with the plant’s other phytochemicals to provide tremendous benefit in wellness products.
No, CBD is naturally non-psychoactive. You may, however, feel more relaxed, which some people also associate with being “high.”
There are over 150 cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant, including CBD, THC, CBG, and CBC. Phytocannabinoids, as well as endocannabinoids (produced by our body), interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) and other receptor pathways to regulate fundamental physiological and cognitive functions. The goal of the ECS is to produce homeostasis, or equilibrium, within the organism.
CBD influences the ECS and other biochemical receptor systems which serve to regulate the human body. Unlike most cannabinoids, CBD doesn’t directly bind with CB1 and CB2, the primary endocannabinoid receptors. However, it does stimulate the receptors uniquely and moderate how other cannabinoids bind with CB1 and CB2. When stimulated, receptors release chemical signals which cause targeted cellular changes throughout the body.
CBD and THC are the two most common cannabinoids in cannabis, though varieties rich in minor cannabinoids are also being bred. CBD may positively impact anxiety as well as pain modulation, provide sleep support, enhance skin health, speed bone growth, and even calm down your pet. THC has both psychotropic and therapeutic properties and is associated with getting “high.” Therapeutic properties of THC, according to studies reported by the National Cancer Institute, include relief of pain, nausea, anxiety, and appetite loss.
Contrary to some rumors, a plant cannot be made CBD-rich if it lacks the right genetic make-up. The ratio of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids is genetically determined, according to a study by biochemist Etienne de Meijer, Inheritance of the Cannabinoid Phenotype. A grower can, however, influence overall cannabinoid content by manipulating environmental factors—temperature, light, water acidity, and nutrients—that affect plant health.
The greatest distinction between ethanol and CO2 extraction is in the range of phytochemicals pulled from the plant. CO2 efficiently extracts oil soluble components, primarily cannabinoids and terpenes, while largely leaving behind water soluble components like flavonoids and other polyphenols. In contrast, ethanol extracts both water soluble and oil soluble plant constituents, making ethanol-extracted hemp oil truly full spectrum. The ethanol used for extraction is strictly USP grade, certified organic cane alcohol.
FECO is Full Extract Cannabis Oil, originally coined to describe decarboxylated alcohol extractions of hemp and cannabis, like Siskiyou Sungrown produces. CBD isolate is refined pure crystalline CBD. It is useful, but lacks the efficacy of FECO, with its full spectrum of beneficial phytochemicals working synergistically.
Around 500 phytochemicals have been identified in the hemp plant. The active compounds work together synergistically to create what scientists refer to as the “entourage” or “ensemble” effect, in which the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Individual cannabinoid products like CBD isolate do not provide the efficacy of products that contain the full spectrum of phytochemicals working synergistically.
Whole plant products like ours contain the full spectrum of phytochemicals that were originally present in the hemp plant. We formulate all of our products with pure, unrefined, resinous oil from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant.
Full spectrum means the product contains the entire spectrum of beneficial phytochemicals originally present in the whole plant—cannabinoids, terpenes, polyphenols, and more. Many brands use “full spectrum” loosely, but most common extraction methods only pull oil-soluble components, missing beneficial water-soluble compounds like flavonoids and polyphenols.
Siskiyou Sungrown uses only ethanol—in the form of USP certified organic cane alcohol—as our extraction solvent. Ethanol pulls both water-soluble and oil-soluble constituents from the plant, making our products truly full spectrum.
The ECS (Endocannabinoid System) is made up of three parts:
- Endocannabinoids
- Receptors in the nervous system and around your body that endocannabinoids and cannabinoids bond with
- Enzymes that help break down endocannabinoids and cannabinoids
Not only is the ECS a natural part of our bodies, scientific research now shows how crucial it is in regulating bodily functions.
Yes, the TSA allows individuals to transport products containing hemp-derived CBD oil, as long as they are produced within federal regulations defined by the 2018 Farm Bill. All Siskiyou Sungrown CBD products are federally legal.
Each person’s body differs. The consumption method affects bioavailability and the time it takes for CBD to enter the bloodstream. Vaping effects are felt the fastest at approximately 10 minutes. Sublingual absorption averages 15–25 minutes. Oral consumption takes approximately 20–30 minutes. Topical applications are the slowest at approximately 25–45 minutes.
About Our Products
Our products are made with USDA certified organic hemp, extracted with certified organic cane alcohol, and manufactured in a certified organic facility. We are committed to organic practices at every stage of our supply chain.
Please note: While the ingredients and processes we use meet certified organic standards, our finished products are not certified organic under USDA NOP regulations. Current federal guidelines do not provide a certification pathway for finished hemp CBD products.
We source our hemp from carefully selected partner growers in Southern Oregon, choosing cultivars specifically for their CBD profile, terpene content, and consistency. All of our hemp is USDA certified organic. Southern Oregon's climate, soil, and growing tradition make it one of the best regions in the country for high-quality hemp production, and we're proud to keep our supply chain rooted here.
All Siskiyou Sungrown hemp CBD products contain trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%), complying with the 2018 Farm Bill. This trace of THC is important—it works synergistically with the plant’s other phytochemicals to provide maximum efficacy.
Hemp oil can refer to either the resinous oil extracted from the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant, or the oil pressed from hemp seeds. Flower and leaf extract contains cannabinoids (including CBD and THC), terpenes, polyphenols, and many other bioactive phytochemicals. Hemp seed oil is highly nutritious, however it contains no cannabinoids.
For Siskiyou Sungrown, the answer is yes. However, most other CBD products on the market are made with either CBD isolate (highly refined and completely lacking in synergistic phytochemicals) or inferior extracts of low quality industrial hemp.
Since our founding in 2014, Siskiyou Sungrown has partnered with Green Leaf Labs, the first cannabis analytical laboratory to be accredited and licensed by a state agency. Oregon testing regulations are the strictest in the nation, and we’ve passed each of the several hundred third-party pesticide tests our products have undergone.
Our products are manufactured in a certified organic and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) nutraceutical facility in Nevada.
The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp products containing below 0.3% THC nationwide. However, we recommend checking your current state laws as legislation and regulation is an ever-changing playing field.
Using Our Products
Our alcohol tincture is over 90% alcohol, so it will burn mucous membranes if undiluted. We suggest diluting it into juice, tea, water, or another beverage. You may hold a diluted solution under your tongue for sublingual absorption if there is no burning sensation.
Our MCT oil tincture is made specifically for sublingual absorption.
Our CBD Salmon Oil for Pets is blended with omega-rich, wild Alaskan salmon oil for effective absorption and a taste dogs and cats love. All mammals have an endocannabinoid system, so pets need CBD for the same reasons humans do. Siskiyou Sungrown CBD Salmon Oil for Pets contains Omega 3, DHA, and EPA plus 200mg of CBD.
It is possible to fail a drug test when consuming even trace amounts of THC. Due to variations in human chemistry and testing protocol, it is impossible to predict how much THC will cause a positive test result.
We highly advise consulting with your doctor or certified health professional before taking CBD with any prescription medications.
CBD and other cannabinoids don’t have a specific expiration date. Our products are best used within 2–3 years of the manufacture date, but will typically retain efficacy for much longer.
Siskiyou Sungrown offers a THC-free, broad spectrum distillate designed specifically for vaping. It also contains other cannabinoids such as CBC, CBDV, and CBN. Each gram contains approximately 900mg of CBD, depending on the batch.
Each dropper holds 1ml of oil, which equates to roughly 30 drops. Our droppers have graduated markings in increments of 0.25ml.
Beeswax, Olive oil, Apricot oil, Almond oil, Sunflower oil, Calendula, Chamomile, Chickweed, Cleavers, Comfrey leaf, Plantain leaf, St. John’s Wort, Arnica montana, CBD Hemp oil, Jojoba, Non-GMO Tocopherol, Mango butter, Shea butter, Aloe vera, Cocoa butter, Lavender, and Tea Tree.
We recommend consulting your doctor before using any CBD products if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
None of our products contain any propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin. New research shows that even though they may be common food additives, they become toxic when inhaled.
We selectively source hemp cultivars chosen for their exceptional CBD content, terpene profiles, and whole-plant phytochemical richness. The varieties we work with have roots in well-established high-CBD genetics including lineages like Harlequin, Super Haze, Lifter and other cultivars that have proven themselves in the Oregon climate over many years. Rather than growing a single proprietary strain, we evaluate each harvest on its merits to ensure our extracts meet our full spectrum standard.
